Playful, colourful wax printing, this way!

Join Wyanne Thompson in this two-part class, where you'll be exploring encaustic monoprinting on a hotplate, with variations like using standard wax crayons and a pancake griddle!

It's joyful, fun, and free-flowing. We can't wait to tell you more..

use encaustic wax + hotplate

In part 1, learn the ropes of using pigmented encaustic sticks on a hotplate to create a beautiful monoprint. Embrace the loose nature of the materials and let go of control.

explore crayons + a griddle

In part 2, switch up the process and try out the same steps with standard wax crayons and a pancake griddle! Have fun and create something equally as colourful!

play with detail + marks

Finish with exploring ways to add marks, details and colour after pulling prints. This step is super flexible, and Wyanne invites you to use what supplies you have to hand.

A little about Wyanne...

"I’ve been a full-time artist for the past 20 years. I have been blessed to have my work in collections all over the world.

In late 2013, I was diagnosed with Stage IV oral cancer. It was a shock. I underwent a major 13-hour surgery, losing my entire tongue and 66 lymph nodes. Followed by chemo, radiation and a year grueling long recovery process. I lost my ability to talk clearly and I take all of my food and drink from a stomach feeding tube. Thankfully, I’m still cancer free and winning the battle with the beast. I am extremely lucky that I don’t have to talk in order to paint. Now, I’m painting more than ever! The process has taught me to live in the moment and not take anything for granted. I now consider "the Big C" a gift.

I now live without hesitation and doubt. I boldly paint what makes me happy in the hopes that it will bring a smile to someone's face and make their day a little brighter. Life's too short!"

To be able to play with wax, you'll need some kind of hotplate or pancake griddle, plus wax (simple wax crayons are used in part 2, more specialised pigmented encaustic sticks in part 1), something to press down the prints with, and something to check the temperature of the hot surface. These are the 4 basics you'll need, but other than that you can use any paper and any other supplies to finish adding touches to the prints!
