Supplies

Essential supplies:

    •    Gel plate (any size and any brand — they come in various shapes and sizes)

    •    Rubber brayer

    •    Acrylic paint (the most commonly used paint for gel plate printing)

    •    Paper for printing — copier paper works fine, or tissue paper (extra/wet strength), Yupo paper, cardstock, or rice paper

For cleaning & maintenance:

    •    Baby oil (for conditioning the gel plate and removing stains)

    •    Soap and water

    •    Lint-free cloth (like a glasses cleaning cloth — avoid anything that sheds fibres)

    •    Kitchen towel / paper towel (for wiping excess paint off the brayer)

Nice to have / used later in the course:

    •    Stencils

    •    Posca pens

    •    Watercolours

    •    Household items (for making textures/marks) such as cling film, tin foil

    •    Stamps, stencils

    •    Optional: Ranger Alcohol Inks and Distress Inks

    •    Gel medium

    •    Foliage and other nature finds

    •    Plain tote bag

Papers to avoid: heavily textured watercolour paper and glossy photo paper (the glossy film can peel off and damage your plate).
